Chapter 13 - The Final RulingJudge Harrison reviewed the transcript summaries and the digital exhibit for three tense minutes. The silence in the federal courtroom was absolute, broken only by the distant hum of the building's climate control system.

Finally, the judge closed the folder and looked squarely at Daniel.

"Mr. Whitmore," Judge Harrison said, his tone biting and absolute. "The court has reviewed your motion. Not only is there zero evidence of legal coercion, but the record demonstrates that your former spouse exercised extraordinary restraint by pursuing civil recovery rather than seeking maximum criminal penalties for your systemic financial fraud."

Judge Harrison struck his gavel once.

"Motion denied with prejudice. Furthermore, any future frivolous filings regarding these assets will result in immediate sanctions and an extension of administrative restrictions. We are adjourned."

As the bailiff ordered the court to stand, Daniel slumped back into his chair, burying his face in his shackled hands. A low, ragged sob escaped him—not of grief, but of absolute realization that his web of manipulation had finally run out of thread.

Clare did not gloat. She did not look back as she turned and walked out of the courtroom, her heels clicking steadily against the marble floor.

Waiting for her in the sunlight outside the federal building was Marcus, holding two cups of coffee and a warm smile.

"Well?" Marcus asked as she reached the bottom stone step.

"Closed, filed, and sealed," Clare said, taking a sip of the warm coffee. "Let's go back to the office, Marcus. We have an urban revitalization project to build."
