Chapter 6 - The VerdictWhen Judge Holloway returned to the bench, the atmosphere in Courtroom 14 was heavy with electric anticipation. Daniel sat alone at the plaintiff's table; his attorneys had packed their laptops and retreated to the back benches, formally distancing themselves from the proceedings.

"The court has reviewed the supplementary exhibits, bank logs, and email correspondence submitted by Mrs. Whitmore," Judge Holloway announced, her voice ringing clear and authoritative across the room.
She looked down at Daniel, who sat staring blankly at the polished wooden surface of the desk.
"Mr. Whitmore, your deliberate falsification of financial statements, concealment of marital assets, and perjury before this court constitute gross contempt and severe statutory fraud. Furthermore, pursuant to Section 503 of the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act, the court finds that all hidden subsidiary assets and corporate holdings were systematically acquired through marital effort and fraudulent concealment."
Judge Holloway paused, striking her gavel once with a decisive, echoing crack.

"It is the judgment of this court that Clare Bennett Whitmore is hereby granted one hundred percent ownership of Whitmore Development Group, all commercial and residential property portfolios across Illinois and Wisconsin, and complete title to the primary marital estate. Additionally, the court is forwarding all transcripts and financial exhibits directly to the United States Attorney’s Office for federal criminal investigation regarding wire fraud and perjury."
Daniel dropped his head into his hands, a low, broken groan escaping his lips as the reality of his total destruction washed over him.
