Chapter 5 - The Turning TideBy noon, the trial had completely inverted. The high-powered legal team from Coleman’s firm sat in stunned silence, their meticulously organized binders rendered entirely useless against Clare’s surgical dismantling of Daniel’s financial empire.

Judge Holloway granted a brief fifteen-minute recess. As the judge stepped back into her chambers, the courtroom erupted into quiet chatter.

Daniel stood up abruptly, stumbling slightly as he hurried over to his legal team. "Do something!" he hissed at Coleman, his voice trembling with panic. "Settle! Offer her whatever she wants—the house, the accounts, fifty percent of everything! Just keep this out of the hands of the federal prosecutor!"

Coleman looked at Daniel with cold, professional disdain. He closed his leather briefcase with a sharp snap. "Mr. Whitmore, thirty minutes ago you laughed because you thought your wife didn't know what she was doing. Now, you're facing criminal wire fraud charges, perjury indictments, and total asset forfeiture. My firm represents civil divorce law, not federal white-collar criminal defense. You are entirely on your own."

Across the room, Clare stood calmly by her table. She repacked her worn brown leather folder, sliding the documents back into their exact tabs.

Marcus Bell, who had slipped quietly into the back gallery during the recess, walked down the aisle and stopped beside her table, holding two steaming cups of coffee.

"You absolute masterpiece," Marcus whispered with a broad, admiring smile, setting a cup on the edge of the table. "I watched the whole thing from the back. The federal banking commission is already outside in the hallway waiting to serve warrants on his corporate partners."

Clare took the coffee cup, taking a slow, calming sip. "Thank you, Marcus. But I didn't do this for revenge. I did it because numbers don't lie, and neither do the consequences of cruelty."
