Chapter 9 - The Final VerdictAfter three weeks of relentless testimony, digital forensics, and Gretchen Vance's tearful cooperation as a witness for the prosecution, the jury returned with their verdict in record time—just two hours.

"On the first count of premeditated attempted murder," the jury foreman read clearly, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom, "we find the defendant, Brandon Prescott, Guilty."
"On the second count of insurance fraud..."
"Guilty."
"On the third count of conspiracy..."
"Guilty."
Judge Harrison slammed his gavel down with a sharp, definitive crack.
"Brandon Prescott, you are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, to be served at the maximum-security federal penitentiary in Florence, Colorado. Court is adjourned."
As the bailiffs grabbed Brandon by the shoulders and hauled him backward toward the holding cells, Brandon locked eyes with Victoria one last time.
His face twisted in pure, unadulterated terror and rage. He opened his mouth to scream, but the heavy steel doors slammed shut, cutting him off completely.

Victoria didn't smile. She didn't gloat. She simply closed her portfolio, stood up, and adjusted her jacket.
Justice wasn't sweet. It was cold, calculated, and absolute.
