Rachel walked into my office, dropping a thick manila folder onto the polished oak wood.
"Word travels fast in the federal penitentiary system," Rachel said, pulling out a chair and sitting down. "Ethan’s cellblock mates found out why he’s locked up. Let’s just say corporate white-collar criminals don't get a warm welcome when they're convicted of domestic terrorism and trying to murder their wives with boiling oil."
I didn’t look up from the financial ledger I was reviewing. "Is he safe?"
"For now, protective custody," Rachel smirked. "He spends twenty-three hours a day staring at a concrete wall, dreaming about the empire he threw away because he couldn't stand the thought of a woman being smarter than him."
I closed the ledger and leaned back, crossing my arms. The physical scars on my shoulder and back had faded into faint silver lines—reminders that could no longer hurt me. "What about Margaret?"
