Footage of Ethan being led out of police headquarters in handcuffs played on a continuous loop. His tailored suit was wrinkled, his hair disheveled, and his eyes darted frantically away from the flashing camera strobes. He tried to shield his face with bound wrists, but the media sharks smelled blood in the water.
Margaret, released on a separate charge pending trial, stood outside the courthouse screaming obscenities at a camera crew, only for federal marshals to immediately re-arrest her on federal wire fraud charges relating to the illegal transfer of corporate titles.
Inside his downtown corporate headquarters, the board of directors was holding an emergency closed-door meeting. But they weren't debating how to save the company—they were trying to figure out how to survive the impending legal tsunami.
The conference room doors swung open, and I walked in.
I wore a sharp, charcoal-gray wool coat draped carefully over my healing shoulders, a pair of dark designer sunglasses hiding the slight swelling around my temples, and silver heels that clicked with absolute authority against the polished mahogany floor.
