Chapter 14 - The Final Underground Standoff

The flashlight beam cut through the narrow brick corridor, illuminating wet stone walls and discarded duffel bags overflowing with stacks of banded hundred-dollar bills. Miller stood at the far end of the tunnel, cornered against a dead-end ventilation grate, holding a heavy tactical crowbar in one hand and a lit emergency flare in the other.

"Back off, Arthur!" Miller snarled, his eyes bloodshot and frantic. "You think you won? The federal accounts are frozen, but the primary bearer bonds are right here in this bag. Let me walk, or this entire tunnel goes up in smoke."

"You aren't going anywhere, Miller," Arthur said calmly, stepping forward despite the threat of the burning flare. "You helped lock my son in a concrete box for three years. You helped destroy my family."

"I was just following orders! Julian paid the bills!" Miller shouted, his hand trembling as he raised the flare toward a leaking gas pipe running along the low brick ceiling.

From behind Arthur, Leo’s small voice pierced the narrow tunnel. "He’s bluffing, Dad. The gas line was shut off by the fire department two hours ago."

Miller’s face flushed with sudden panic. Before he could swing the crowbar, Hannah lunged from the shadows, sweeping her heavy iron pipe across Miller's shins with brutal precision. The security guard let out a sharp cry, collapsing heavily onto the damp stone floor as the flare rolled harmlessly into a puddle of water.

Arthur pinned Miller’s arms behind his back, snapping heavy zip-ties around his wrists with cold efficiency.

"It's over, Miller," Arthur whispered into the guard's ear. "Stay down."
