Chapter 5 - The Hidden Repository

Without thinking, Arthur pressed his hand against the scanner plate out of sheer frustration. A soft red light blinked.

Access Denied. Biometric mismatch.

"Dad, look at the bottom," Leo pointed to a small USB slot hidden beneath a sliding metal cover. "When Uncle Julian opened it last week, he plugged in a small black flash drive with a skull sticker on it."

Hannah stepped forward, rummaging through her heavy canvas utility belt. "Well, good thing I'm a structural contractor who occasionally moonlights in security bypasses." She pulled out a small electronic diagnostic kit, a miniature soldering iron, and a modified data cable. "Give me ninety seconds."

Behind them, the distant sound of heavy iron tools grinding against the hatch door echoed through the tunnel. They were cutting through the iron.

"Make it sixty, Hannah," Arthur urged, keeping his eyes fixed on the dark tunnel behind them.

"Almost... got it," Hannah muttered, her fingers moving with incredible precision. She connected her device to the keypad's internal diagnostic port, overriding the biometric lock with a rapid series of pulse commands.

Click.

The heavy steel door hissed as pneumatic seals released, slowly swinging inward to reveal a brilliantly lit, climate-controlled vault.

It wasn't just a safe room. It was a digital command center. Rows of server racks hummed quietly in the chilled air, glowing with blinking blue and green indicator lights. Desks covered in financial documents, legal deeds, and hard drives lined the perimeter.

And right in the center of the room sat a large, framed photograph of Arthur, Victoria, and Julian, taken ten years ago on the day they founded Vanguard Industries. Across the glass, someone had drawn a red X through Arthur’s face.

"They didn't just steal the company," Arthur whispered, walking slowly toward the central desk. "They engineered my entire life. The corporate merger, my marriage to Victoria, the 'accident' that killed our parents twenty years ago..."

He opened a leather-bound journal lying on the desk. The handwriting was Victoria’s, meticulous and chillingly clinical. Entry after entry detailed a systematic plan to isolate Arthur, drain his assets, and eventually declare him mentally incompetent to take over the family estate.

"Look at this," Hannah called out from the server racks, holding up a printout of an international wire transfer receipt dated yesterday. "They were liquidating everything. They aren't just fleeing the state—they're transferring fifty million dollars to an offshore account in the Cayman Islands under a shell corporation named Lazarus Holdings."

"Lazarus," Arthur murmured bitterly. "Because they thought they were raising the dead."

The heavy steel door behind them suddenly beeped. The override code Hannah had entered was overridden from a master console outside.

Julian stepped into the vault, flanked by two armed guards holding suppressed tactical rifles. He looked at them with a cold, triumphant smile, holding a heavy black remote control in his right hand.
