Chapter 12 - Clause 9BThe room fell into an absolute, suffocating silence. Arthur’s hand hovered nervously over his briefcase, while Julian swallowed hard, staring at Judge Evelyn Vance.

"What do you mean, clause 9B?" Arthur demanded, though his voice had lost its initial razor-sharp edge. "A standard will leaves provisions for the direct bloodline. You can't cut us out completely!"

Judge Vance calmly adjusted her glasses, opened the heavy leather binder, and slid a single sheet of parchment across the mahogany desk.

"Read it aloud, Mr. Walker," Judge Vance instructed evenly. "Or shall I read it for you?"

With trembling fingers, Arthur picked up the document. His eyes scanned the first few lines, and within seconds, all the color drained completely from his face. His lips parted in silent shock.

"This... this is impossible," Arthur whispered, stumbling backward until his legs hit the back of a chair. "This is a trap. Dad wouldn't—he couldn't legally do this!"

Julian leaped up, snatching the paper from his brother's grip. His eyes bulged as he read the bold print:

'To my sons, Arthur and Julian, who have not visited my home or called their father in 3,500 days: You are hereby bequeathed the exact sum of one dollar each, as a reminder of the emotional bankruptcy you invested in this family. Furthermore, any attempt to contest this will in a court of law will immediately trigger a forfeiture clause, turning over your personal corporate assets to pay for Laura's legal fees and the construction of the Clara Walker Foundation.'

Julian dropped the paper as if it were burning hot. "He bankrupt us? He tied our personal company accounts to a dead man's will?!"

I sat back down in Ernest’s leather chair, crossing my legs slowly, feeling a profound surge of power.

"Your father spent his whole life building structures that lasted," I said softly, looking straight into Arthur's furious, panicked eyes. "You two spent your lives trying to tear them down for a quick payout. Game over, boys."

Arthur slammed his fist onto the desk, his face purple with rage. "You bitch! This isn't over! You'll pay for this!" he roared, storming out of the room with Julian scrambling right behind him like a terrified dog.

As the heavy front door slammed shut, Judge Vance looked at me, offering a rare, approving smile. "Ernest chose well, Laura. But clearing the sons is only the first battle. What are you going to do about the town council blocking the construction permits for Clara's school?"

Hook for Facebook: The sons read the secret clause and discover their own business assets have been legally seized if they dare to fight the will—leaving them completely checkmated.
