Chapter 18 - Justice at the GatesThree weeks later, international law enforcement caught up with Arthur Walker at Zurich Airport, slapping him in handcuffs just as he tried to board a private flight to Dubai. Extradition papers were signed within forty-eight hours.

The trial was swift, brutal, and broadcast nationwide. Armed with Julian's digital records, the pharmacy receipts, and Judge Vance's testimony, the prosecution proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Arthur had systematically tampered with his father's medication out of sheer greed.

Standing on the courthouse steps under a blinding flurry of reporters' camera flashes, I felt a profound sense of closure. Mark was out of my life, divorce papers finalized; Arthur was facing life imprisonment without parole; and the corrupt local politicians had been swept out of office.

The iron gates of the Walker mansion no longer felt like a barrier holding me back from the world. They felt like a fortress protecting a new legacy.

Construction on the Clara & Ernest Walker Center for Architecture finally began on a crisp, bright Monday morning.

As the heavy yellow bulldozers broke ground on the historic lot, I stood on the sidewalk wearing a hard hat and holding the original blueprints Clara had drawn fifty years ago.

My friend Rose walked up beside me, handing me a warm cup of Earl Grey tea in Ernest's favorite porcelain mug.

"You did it, child," Rose smiled, her eyes misty with tears. "You walked slow enough to find your way."

I took a sip of the tea, looking out at the rising steel beams of the building that would give countless women a second chance at life.

"I didn't do it alone, Rose," I whispered, looking up at the bright autumn sky. "Ernest and Clara built the foundation. I just finally learned how to carry the weight."
