Chapter 24 - The Invisible Network

"Name your price," Lorenzo growled, his hand resting inches from the butt of his pistol. "You didn't break into my most secure sanctuary just to recite family history. You want a trade."

The masked man leaned back in his chair, folding his hands over his stomach. "Smart boy. You always were the sharpest blade in the family drawer, Lorenzo. But intelligence without foresight is just a slow suicide. Here are my terms."

The figure held up a sleek, black hardware drive to the camera.

"Inside this drive is a complete master list of every asset, offshore account, and political bribe your grandfather accumulated over forty years—including the true records of the embezzlement the Vane family was framed for. Your entire empire, Lorenzo. Your shipping lanes, your real estate holdings, your sovereign bank accounts in Zurich."

"And if I sign them over?" Lorenzo asked.

"Then the girl is left unharmed in the courtyard at dawn," the masked man replied smoothly. "You and Clara walk away with nothing more than the clothes on your backs. You become ghosts again. Just like you were before you decided to play king."

Clara shook her head violently, tears streaming down her face. "Don't do it, Lorenzo! It's a trap! Even if you sign over everything, men like that don't leave witnesses!"

Lorenzo didn't look at her. His gaze remained locked on the camera lens, his mind calculating angles, escape routes, security blind spots, and the exact distance between the camera and the physical router in the nursery.

"You think I'm going to hand over my life's work based on a video feed?" Lorenzo challenged, his voice dropping into a deadly, hypnotic calm.

"You don't have a choice," the masked man said, raising a small, silver detonator box into the frame. "The nursery’s structural support pillars are wired with high-yield military-grade C4. One press of this button, and your legacy—and your daughter—turns into dust. You have sixty seconds to decide, Lorenzo. The clock starts... now."

The screen blinked and went black.

The war room plunged into absolute silence, broken only by the heavy, ragged breathing of the people standing around the table.

"Marco," Lorenzo said instantly, his voice snapping with terrifying authority. "Trace that signal. Where is the relay coming from?"

"I'm already on it, Boss," Marco fingers flying across the tactical keyboard, lines of green code cascading down the monitor. "The video feed wasn't external. It was routed through our own internal intranet. The signal is coming from... from the old bomb shelter beneath the East Wing wine cellar."

Lorenzo didn't hesitate. He drew his Sig Sauer, pulled back the slide with a sharp crack, and turned toward the door. "Dante, secure the perimeter. Marco, stay on the terminal and kill the C4 remote receiver frequency if you can. Clara..."

He stopped, looking back at her. Her face was pale, but her eyes burned with a fierce, terrifying resolve.

"I'm coming with you," Clara said, picking up the service pistol from the side table. "That's my daughter in that room. You aren't leaving me behind."
