Chapter 6 - The Revelation

The words hung in the air like a detonating charge. Your own flesh and blood.

Lorenzo’s mind raced backward through the years. Five years ago, Elena Vance had been his personal secretary—a brilliant, fiercely independent young woman whom he had secretly fallen for before the bitter betrayal of the accounting scandal tore their worlds apart. He had ordered her family exiled, believing they had betrayed the syndicate. He had never known she was carrying his child when she fled into the night.

"Where is the antidote?" Lorenzo snarled, lunging forward and grabbing Victor by the lapels of his suit, hauling him out of his chair with terrifying strength. "Give me the antidote to the heavy metal poison, or I will feed you to the hounds in the basement piece by piece!"

Victor didn't flinch, even as the fabric choked him. He coughed, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "You're too late, Lorenzo. The poison isn't in her system anymore—it's already reached her neurological pathways. Dr. Althaus can stabilize her body, but without the specific neutralizing compound held in the Vane family vault across town, she’ll be a vegetable by sunrise. And guess who holds the only keycard to that vault?"

Dante drew his weapon, aiming it squarely at Victor’s forehead. "Boss, give the word. I'll open him up right here."

"No," Lorenzo said, releasing Victor with a violent shove that sent the CFO crashing back into his chair. Lorenzo’s expression was terrifyingly calm—the terrifying stillness of a hurricane before it makes landfall. "Dante, secure this room. Lock Victor and Valerie in the lower holding cells. Nobody touches them until I get back."

"It's not a suicide mission," Lorenzo replied, sliding a customized Sig Sauer into his shoulder holster and pulling on his black leather gloves. "It's a rescue. Guard Lily with your life. If anything happens to that little girl while I'm gone, burn this entire estate to the ground."
