Chapter 29 - The Broadcast

The digital broadcast went live at precisely noon across every secure dark-web channel, international investigative journalism portal, and financial clearinghouse server from Geneva to Hong Kong.

It was a massive, encrypted data dump containing every financial transaction, offshore account number, bribery ledger, and execution order commissioned by the Moretti syndicate and its rival factions over the past three decades.

Within minutes, the underground world erupted in absolute chaos.

Phones across Europe began ringing off the hook in high-security compounds, Swiss bank accounts were frozen by international anti-corruption task forces, and high-ranking syndicate capos found themselves swarmed by federal agents before they even had time to pack their bags. The old-guard council—the unseen men who had pulled the strings behind Julian, Althaus, and the recent estate bombing—suddenly found their identities exposed to the full weight of global law enforcement.

Inside the subterranean bunker of the Moretti estate, the massive wall monitors flashed with endless lines of incoming alerts, asset freezes, and breaking news headlines.

Lorenzo sat at the desk, watching the digital empire he had inherited dissolve into federal investigations and public transparency. He didn't look regretful. He looked lighter—as if a heavy iron anchor that had weighed him down for thirty years had finally been cut loose.

Clara walked up behind him, setting a cup of black coffee on the edge of the desk. She placed her hands gently on his shoulders, her fingers massaging the tense muscles at the base of his neck.

"It's all gone," Clara said softly, her voice carrying a note of profound peace. "The shipping lanes, the offshore accounts, the syndicate holdings. You just gave away everything your family spent generations building."

Lorenzo reached up, covering her hand with his own, pressing it against his cheek. He turned his head and kissed her palm.

"I didn't give it away, Elena," Lorenzo corrected, looking up at her with eyes that finally held no shadows. "I traded it. For the first time in my life, I own my name. And no one can ever buy it back."

Before Clara could reply, the heavy reinforced door of the bunker creaked open.

Footsteps padded softly across the concrete floor.

They both turned.

Lily stood in the doorway, rubbing her sleepy brown eyes with one hand, dragging her old, threadbare stuffed rabbit behind her with the other. She looked around the bunker, blinking against the bright lights of the monitors, before locking her gaze on Lorenzo and Clara.

"Mommy? Daddy?" Lily mumbled, her voice sweet and small in the quiet room. "Can we go outside now? The smoke is gone."

Clara dropped to her knees instantly, opening her arms wide. Lily ran across the floor, hurling herself into her mother's embrace, burying her face in Clara's neck.

Lorenzo stood up from the desk, walked over, and knelt down beside them, wrapping his arms around both of his girls, pulling them close against his chest.
