Chapter 14 - Breach at Sector 4The lights in the private penthouse elevator shaft died instantly, plunging the upper corridor into pitch blackness save for the harsh crimson glow of the emergency backup strips.

Heavy boots echoed up the grand stairwell. Three masked figures dressed in tactical matte-black gear emerged onto the floor, weapons raised, moving with military precision. At the front of the formation stood Daniel, his face uncovered, a cold, cynical smirk carved across his features.
He raised a customized electronic decryption pad toward the primary vault door.
"Don't bother, Daniel," my voice cut through the dark corridor, echoing off the marble walls.
Daniel froze. He slowly lowered the decryption pad and turned around, spotting me standing calmly by the balcony doors, my hands tucked casually into my pockets. Beside me, Clara stood tall, her posture unyielding.
Daniel laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "Arthur. Still trying to play the mastermind, aren't you? It's a shame you didn't stay in that wheelchair. At least then you would have had an excuse for losing everything."
"You were my head of security, Daniel," I said, taking a slow step forward. "I trusted you with my life. And the moment my car went off that cliff, you traded my loyalty for a paycheck from Martin's offshore stash."
"Business is business, Arthur," Daniel spat, gesturing to the two armed mercenaries flanking him. "You built an empire by stepping on people. Don't act surprised when someone pulls the rug out from under you. Now, hand over the master override codes to the central vault, or your little housemaid friend here gets to see how real violence works."

Clara didn't flinch. Instead, she looked directly at Daniel with a look of profound pity. "You really think you've won, don't you, Daniel? You didn't even check the sub-routines before you walked up here."
Daniel's smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. "What are you talking about?"
