Chapter 7 - A New FoundationOver the next month, the empire underwent a massive purge. Every single opportunist, sycophant, and corrupt associate connected to Martin and Vanessa was systematically rooted out of Sterling Enterprises.

The public scandal was colossal. Tabloids feasted on the details of the "Wheelchair Deception," painting me as a brilliant, ruthless strategist who played possum to catch his enemies in the act. Social media was flooded with memes, debates, and analyses of how a disabled millionaire outsmarted his gold-digging fiancée.

But out of the wreckage, something entirely unexpected began to grow.

Clara was no longer my housemaid; she was officially appointed as my Chief of Staff. Her sharp instincts, innate emotional intelligence, and unwavering moral compass made her invaluable not just to the company, but to me personally.

One evening, as we worked late into the night reviewing architectural blueprints for a new philanthropic foundation we were launching, the office lights flickered softly.

"You know," Clara murmured, rubbing her tired eyes, "three months ago, I was just cleaning up champagne spills and listening to people insult you while I polished the silver."

"And now?" I asked, leaning back in my leather chair, watching her intently.

"Now, we're rebuilding an entire empire from the ground up," she said, looking up with a radiant smile. "Though I have to admit... you scared me to death when you stood up in that boardroom."

I chuckled softly, walking over to her desk and placing a warm hand over hers. "I had to make sure the performance was convincing enough to wash away all the fake people in my life. So that only the real ones remained."

Clara’s breath hitched slightly. She didn't pull her hand away. Her fingers gently turned over, intertwining with mine.

"And am I one of the real ones, Arthur?" she whispered softly.
