Chapter 3 - The Boardroom AmbushThe emergency board meeting was called for 9:00 AM sharp on Monday morning.

I rolled into the sleek glass-walled boardroom of Sterling Enterprises precisely two minutes early. Vanessa was already seated at the head of the mahogany table, looking radiant in a designer crimson suit. To her right sat Uncle Martin, looking smug, flanked by two corporate lawyers he had hired behind my back.

"Well, look who decided to show up," Vanessa purred, leaning back in her chair. "Arthur, darling, you really shouldn't strain yourself. We already voted on your temporary suspension as CEO. Martin is taking over."

Martin cleared his throat, adjusting his tie. "For the good of the company, Arthur, we must ratify the emergency succession plan. You're simply not capable..."

I didn't say a word. I simply pressed a button on the armrest of my wheelchair.

Clack.

The heavy electronic double doors of the boardroom unlocked and swung open.

Stepping through the threshold wasn't a nurse or a physical therapist. It was Clara, wearing a sharp, tailored navy-blue suit that cost more than a month of her previous maid salary. In her hands, she carried a stack of pristine, gold-embossed folders. Behind her walked Marcus Vance, the ruthless federal prosecutor known for dismantling corporate crime syndicates.

Vanessa’s smile faltered. "What is this? Who let the maid into a high-level executive meeting? Security!"

"Quiet, Vanessa," I said.

My voice wasn't loud, but it carried a chilling, razor-sharp authority that made the entire room freeze. I gripped the armrests, pushed my feet firmly against the carpet, and stood straight up.

The entire boardroom gasped.

Martin dropped his pen. Vanessa stood up so fast her chair screeched against the floor, her eyes wide with absolute horror as she stared at my legs.

"You... you're paralyzed!" she shrieked. "You can't walk!"

"A convincing performance, wasn't it?" I smiled, buttoning my suit jacket as I walked slowly, deliberately, toward the head of the table. "And business-wise, Vanessa... your performance review is about to begin."
