Chapter 14 - THE DESPERATE CHASE

The roar of the private helicopter’s rotors shook the windows of the estate as it touched down on the private helipad outside.

Harrison stood at the edge of the terrace, watching through the blinding whirl of wind as Sarah led Benjamin, Madison, Chloe, and Zoe toward the boarding ramp. Security guards stood at a distance, unsure whether to intervene, paralyzed by the conflicting orders of their billionaire employer.

“Sir! We have an emergency alert from the medical wing!” Logan shouted over the deafening roar of the jet turbine, sprinting out onto the terrace with a tablet in his hand.

Harrison didn’t look back. “I don’t care about the corporate alerts, Logan. Stop her.”

“Sir, it’s not a corporate alert!” Logan yelled, holding the screen directly in front of Harrison’s face. “It’s Chloe’s biometric monitor! Her heart rate just dropped below critical! She’s going into acute cardiac arrest!”

Harrison froze.

The sound of the helicopter engine suddenly faded into white noise. He turned around, his eyes locking onto the boarding ramp where Sarah was just helping Chloe inside the cabin.

Without a second thought, Harrison broke into a dead sprint across the lawn, ignoring the wind, the rain beginning to fall, and his own expensive suit.

“Sarah! Stop!” he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Sarah turned at the top of the ramp, freezing when she saw Harrison sprinting toward them, his face twisted in absolute terror.

“Sarah, it’s Chloe!” Harrison yelled, collapsing to his knees at the base of the ramp as he caught his breath. “Her heart... she’s in cardiac arrest. If you take off in that helicopter right now without the emergency resuscitator in the main wing... she won’t survive the hour.”

Sarah’s breath hitched. She looked down at Chloe, whose lips were turning pale, her small body trembling violently as another coughing fit seized her.

“Mama... hurts...” Chloe whispered, her eyes rolling back.

Sarah didn’t hesitate. She scooped Chloe up in her arms and raced back down the ramp, falling to her knees beside Harrison in the wet grass.

“Help her!” Sarah screamed, tears finally breaking through her stoic mask. “Please! Save my baby!”
