Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING

“Harrison!” Victoria Vance shrieked, rushing down the basement stairs from the upper floor, her diamond necklaces clinking as she moved. “How dare you lay hands on your father! Security! Arrest this—!”

“Look at me, Victoria,” Harrison interrupted, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade. He turned his head toward his stepmother. “Your phone records show you intercepted Sarah’s bus. Your company coordinates tracked the abduction. If you or my father so much as twitch another muscle, I will release every single document of tax evasion, offshore money laundering, and corporate fraud I’ve compiled over the last ten years straight to the Department of Justice.”

Victoria turned pale as chalk, stepping back into the shadows.

Harrison ignored them both, dropping to his knees beside Sarah. With a swift snap of a tactical blade, he cut through the zip ties binding her wrists, gently pulling the gag away from her mouth.

“Sarah,” he choked out, his voice breaking as he cradled her face in his hands. “I’m so sorry. I am so, so sorry.”

Sarah stared at him, her breath hitching. The man who had abandoned her eight years ago was kneeling before her in the dirt, crying tears of genuine remorse, his protection wrapping around her like an impenetrable shield.

“Harrison… the kids…” she sobbed, burying her face in his shoulder. “Benjamin… Madison… Chloe… Zoe…”

“They’re safe,” Harrison whispered fiercely into her hair. “They’re at Sterling Memorial Hospital right now, eating warm food, seeing the best doctors in the country. They’re sleeping in real beds, Sarah. They will never sleep on cardboard again.”

Arthur Sterling straightened his jacket, coughing heavily as he tried to regain his authority. “You think you can just destroy our family legacy for a diner waitress and a bunch of bastards, Harrison? Without my blessing, you have nothing. I’ll cut you out of the board of directors by morning!”

Harrison slowly stood up, turning to face the man who had controlled, manipulated, and lied to him his entire life.

“You didn't cut me out, Father,” Harrison said coldly, pulling a thick legal binder from under his arm and tossing it onto the table. “I just called an emergency meeting of the Sterling Enterprises board of directors. As of four minutes ago, with seventy-two percent of the voting shares—backed by the minority shareholders you screwed over decades ago—you have been unanimously voted out as CEO.”

Arthur stared at the document, his knees buckling slightly. “That’s… that’s impossible. You don’t have the votes—”

“I bought out your key allies while flying in on my jet tonight,” Harrison replied without a trace of emotion. “You are no longer the head of this family. And if you ever come within five miles of Sarah or my children again, I won’t just strip your title—I will put you in a prison cell where you can spend your remaining years thinking about the family you destroyed.”

He turned back to Sarah, extending his hand.

“Come home with me, Sarah. Let me spend the rest of my life making this right.”
