Chapter 9 - THE GHOST FROM THE PAST

The transition from survival to limitless wealth had not been easy for Sarah, no matter how many security details or private estates Harrison threw at her. While Benjamin and the triplets quickly adjusted to sprawling bedrooms, private tutors, and endless toys, Sarah found herself waking up in cold sweats, reaching out for the metal cooking pot that was no longer there.
Harrison sat up beside her in the king-sized velvet bed, switching on the warm bedside lamp.
“Another nightmare?” he asked, his voice thick with sleep and heavy with the guilt he still carried.
“I keep thinking about the apartment,” Sarah breathed, burying her face in her hands. “I keep thinking that if I fall asleep for too long, someone will wake me up and tell me this was all a cruel joke orchestrated by your father.”
“It’s not a joke, Sarah,” Harrison whispered fiercely, pulling her hands away and kissing her knuckles. “My father has no power here anymore. The board is mine, the empire is ours, and no one will ever touch you again.”
Before Sarah could answer, a sharp chime echoed from Harrison’s encrypted smartphone on the nightstand. It wasn’t a standard ringtone; it was a high-priority alert reserved exclusively for his chief of security, Logan.
Harrison frowned, picking up the device. He swiped the screen, his face draining of all color in a matter of seconds.
“What is it?” Sarah asked, noticing the sudden tension in his frame.
“Logan says perimeter sensors at the north gate just tripped,” Harrison replied slowly, his eyes narrowing. “Someone bypassed the biometric scanners using an override code that only one person outside of us possessed.”
