Chapter 7 - The Interrogation in the Frozen NorthThousands of miles away, inside a freezing windowless holding room at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Evelyn and Julian Vance were pacing back and forth like caged tigers.

"This is an outrage!" Julian shouted, slamming his hand down on the metal interrogation table. "Do you know who my family is? My mother is a Vance! We have direct ties to the State Department!"

The customs officer, a weathered woman with unimpressed eyes, didn't even look up from her clipboard.

"Sir, your private charter was flagged by international financial regulators for carrying unverified bearer bonds and a secondary corporate seal that matches an ongoing international asset freeze," the officer said flatly. "You aren't going anywhere until every single hard drive, briefcase, and pocket is searched."

Evelyn slumped into a metal chair, her usual composure completely shattered. Her breath plumed in the cold air of the holding room. For the first time in her life, her ironclad control was slipping.

"It's her," Evelyn whispered, her voice trembling slightly with sudden, cold realization.

Julian stopped pacing and stared at his mother. "Who? Who are you talking about?"

"The orphan," Evelyn hissed, her eyes wide with sudden, terrifying clarity. "The girl we left in Tokyo... she wasn't stranded. She wasn't helpless. She let us leave."

Julian scoffed nervously. "Mother, that's absurd! We took her phone, her passport, her money! She doesn't even speak Japanese fluently!"

Before Evelyn could reply, the heavy steel door of the holding room swung open. A junior federal agent walked in, holding a tablet computer that was flashing a high-priority corporate alert.

"Mr. Vance?" the agent asked. "We just received an emergency override notification from the Zurich corporate registry. Your primary voting shares have just been entirely revoked and transferred to an independent majority stakeholder."

Julian staggered backward, gripping the edge of the metal table. "Revoked? By whom?!"

The agent looked down at the tablet screen, raising an eyebrow. "By a chairwoman named... Victoria Vance."
