Chapter 15 - The Ambush at the Warehouse"Ambush!" Dante roared, drawing his weapon and firing a blind, suppressive volley up toward the rafters where the sniper’s muzzle flash had briefly illuminated the darkness.

"They set us up!" Sofia screamed, cowering behind a concrete pillar as more bullets tore through the warehouse, splintering wood and kicking up concrete dust.

"Stay down!" Dante barked, his mind racing through tactical options.

He didn't come alone—he had left Mateo and a tactical unit three blocks away on standby, waiting for his signal flare. Quickly pulling a signal flare from his tactical vest, Dante yanked the cap and threw it toward the open loading dock.

Whoosh!

A blinding red light flooded the warehouse, bathing the interior in a crimson glow. From the catwalks above, two masked gunmen dropped down, rappelling swiftly toward the floor with automatic rifles raised.

Dante moved with lethal precision. Rolling across the dusty concrete, he raised his 9mm and fired twice, dropping the first gunman before his boots even hit the ground. The second gunman spun around to fire at Dante, but a sudden burst of gunfire from the doorway shattered his shoulder.

Mateo and four tactical guards poured into the warehouse, their weapons trained on the upper levels as they secured the perimeter.

"Boss! Are you hit?" Mateo shouted over the din, rushing to Dante's side.

"I'm fine!" Dante spat, standing up and brushing dust off his coat. He looked around for Sofia, but the space behind the concrete pillar was empty. In the chaos of the gunfire, she had vanished into the night.

"She used us as bait," Dante muttered, his jaw clenched so hard his teeth ached. He looked down at the manila folder still clutched in his hand. The surveillance photos of his children stared back at him.

The invisible war had just become a blood feud.
