Chapter 9 - The Heir's WelcomeSix months later, the Moretti estate in the exclusive suburbs of Chicago was buzzing with quiet, high-security luxury.

The birth had been dramatic—as everything in the Moretti family tended to be. Two weeks early, Lena had gone into labor during a quiet dinner at home, sending Dante into a state of sheer panic that rivaled a bomb threat. But beneath the flashing lights of private medical teams, two healthy, perfect infants entered the world: a boy with Dante’s dark, piercing eyes, and a girl with Lena’s soft, expressive spirit.

Now, sitting in the sunlit nursery adorned with hand-painted Italian murals, Dante Moretti—the most feared man in Chicago—was currently wearing a soft cotton button-down shirt with baby spit-up on his shoulder, gently rocking his newborn daughter to sleep.

Lena sat nearby in a comfortable rocking chair, nursing their son, watching her husband with a amused, loving smile.

"You know, if your business associates could see you right now," Lena teased quietly, "holding a pink rattle while singing a lullaby in Italian, your reputation would be ruined."

Dante smiled, kissing the baby’s tiny forehead before laying her gently into her crib. He walked over to Lena, kneeling beside her chair, resting his chin on her knee and looking up at her with worshipful adoration.

"Let them talk," Dante whispered, taking Lena’s hand and kissing her knuckles. "My empire isn't built on fear anymore, Lena. It's built right here in this room."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet jeweler's box. He popped it open to reveal a brand-new wedding band—simpler than her original diamond ring, engraved on the inside with three new words: Always, My Heart.

"Our five-year anniversary was a disaster," Dante said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "And I can't rewrite the past. But I can spend the rest of our lives making sure every single day you wake up knowing you are the most cherished, protected, and deeply loved woman in this world."

Lena’s eyes glistened with happy tears. She lifted her left hand, letting him slide the new ring onto her finger right beside her grandmother’s necklace resting against her collarbone.

"I love you, Dante," she whispered.

"And I love you, Lena," he replied, standing up to kiss her deeply, sealing a bond that no betrayal, no secret, and no enemy could ever break again.
