Chapter 17 - The Counter-StrikeThe following afternoon, the high-security subterranean command center beneath the Moretti estate looked like a military war room.

Maps of Chicago’s shipping lanes, European flight logs, and financial shell corporations were displayed across three massive digital screens. Dante stood at the head of the table, flanked by Mateo and three trusted syndicate captains, while Lena sat directly opposite him, reviewing the encrypted wire transfers Sofia had provided.

"The Sicilian syndicate is routing their primary funding through an offshore shipping front called Marinos Holdings," Lena said, her finger tracing a line of code on the tablet. "If we freeze their liquidity accounts in Zurich and simultaneously seize their cargo shipments arriving at Pier 4 tomorrow morning, they'll be completely cut off."

The syndicate captains exchanged impressed glances. Over the past decade, Lena hadn't just been a wife and mother; she had quietly educated herself on the inner workings of the Moretti empire, becoming Dante’s most trusted strategic advisor.

"She's right," Mateo nodded, tapping a key on the console. "If we hit their financial arteries before they realize we have their dossier, they won't have the capital to fund an assault on the estate."

Dante looked across the table at Lena. Pride and fierce adoration swelled in his chest, warring with the lingering fear for her safety.

"We execute the financial freeze at midnight," Dante ordered, his voice echoing authoritatively through the room. "Mateo, secure the perimeter of the children's academy with double details. No one gets within three blocks without my direct clearance."

"Understood, Boss," Mateo saluted, turning to rally the teams.

As the war room emptied out, leaving just the two of them standing beneath the glowing digital screens, Dante walked over to Lena, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close against his chest.

"Are you scared?" Dante whispered against her hair.

"I used to be," Lena admitted softly, resting her hands over his heart. "When I walked out of your office ten years ago, I thought betrayal was the end of the world. But I learned something important since then, Dante: monsters only win when you run from them. We aren't running anymore."

Dante smiled, kissing her deeply, sealing a pact forged in steel, blood, and absolute devotion.
