Chapter 4 - The Toy’s Secret

The firefight was brutal, brief, and violent. Victor’s loyalists secured the apartment, neutralizing the rogue operatives. Clara Dupont, terrifyingly calm amidst the brass casings, clung to her son Liam.
As they regrouped inside the armored transport, Sophie reached down and pulled her forgotten, frayed stuffed rabbit from Evelyn’s bag. She squeezed its plush ear, and a faint, rhythmic clicking sound filled the quiet vehicle.
Victor leaned in close. “What is that?”
Evelyn inspected the rabbit’s seams. “She’s had this rabbit since the clinic in Bern. The hospital gave it to her as a comfort object.”
Victor pulled out a small tactical knife, carefully slicing open the stuffed animal’s spine. Out dropped a small, silver key drive etched with a unique serial code: EOS-CORE-00.
“It’s an offline encryption key,” Victor murmured, plugging it into his secure satellite laptop.
The screen instantly bypassed Hale Biomedical’s firewalls, unlocking a hidden sub-tier of records that even Marcus Vale hadn’t possessed. Audio files began to auto-play through the vehicle’s speakers.
A woman’s voice filled the cabin. Smooth, elegant, and chillingly familiar.
“Victor, my love. If you are listening to this, it means Julian’s master plan has failed, and you have found our daughter.”

Victor went deathly pale, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the desk.
It was the voice of Isabella Hale. His wife, who had allegedly died in a car crash four years ago.
