Chapter 8 - Storming Blackwood Isle

Night fell like a black velvet curtain over the choppy waters surrounding Blackwood Isle. Thunder roared as Victor’s tactical team landed on the island’s rocky coast via stealth assault boats.
Victor and Evelyn, wearing black tactical gear, moved through the shadows of the island’s outer perimeter. Evelyn had refused to stay behind at the bunker, knowing her unique biological link to the project might be the only way to bypass the security protocols.
They breached the lower service tunnels, descending deep into the bowels of the subterranean lab. The air grew cold and metallic, smelling heavily of ozone and formaldehydes.
They reached a massive glass-walled chamber filled with glowing cryogenic tanks. In the center of the room, suspended in a column of amber fluid, was Isabella Hale. Her hair floated around her pale face like dark seaweed, tubes connected to her spine and head.
Standing at the control console was Director Arthur Vane, the head of Hale Biomedical’s executive board. Surrounding him were a dozen heavily armed guards.
“I wondered when you would arrive, Victor,” Vane said smoothly, turning around with a cruel smile. “You always were predictable. Just like your father.”

“It’s over, Vane,” Victor said, raising his rifle. “We have secured all five children. Your board’s secret is exposed.”
Vane laughed, a dry, rasping sound. “Secured them? My dear boy, bringing them together was the final requirement for Phase Two. The link is complete.”
