Chapter 6 - The Dead Billionaire’s ConfessionVictor claimed Evelyn Kane was alive.

For twenty-eight years, Senator Vale had kept her imprisoned because she designed the identity system that later became Project Lazarus.

“She created it to protect witnesses,” Victor explained. “Your father turned it into a marketplace.”

Victor had helped Evelyn hide Noah, but he failed to save Mara. Later, he remained close to the senator so he could dismantle the operation from within.

Elena did not trust him.

“You laughed while I stood bleeding in that ballroom.”

“I was laughing because your father had just informed me that Noah was the traitor. I needed him to believe I wasn’t afraid.”

“You all perform cruelty and call it protection.”

Victor accepted the accusation.

He revealed that Senator Vale planned to activate Lazarus at midnight. The system would erase evidence against hundreds of powerful clients and replace their official records with innocent identities.

Once activated, the truth would become nearly impossible to prove.

Evelyn was being held beneath the Vale Presidential Library.

They had eighteen hours.

The team entered the library during Senator Vale’s emergency press conference. Elena wore a hidden camera while Adrian posed as her concerned husband. Noah and Lily infiltrated the underground facility through maintenance tunnels.

Before stepping onstage, Adrian took Elena’s hand.

“I know forgiveness isn’t something I can ask for.”

“Then don’t.”

“I need you to know one thing. Marrying you began as an assignment. Loving you didn’t.”

Elena withdrew her hand.

“Help me end this. After that, we end too.”

Adrian nodded, devastated but accepting.

During the press conference, Elena embraced her father before dozens of cameras.

Senator Vale whispered, “You should have died with your sister.”

Elena smiled.

“You first.”

Alarms erupted underground.

Noah had found Evelyn.

But Lily had disappeared.

A live feed appeared on Senator Vale’s private tablet. Lily stood inside the Lazarus control room with a gun against Victor’s head.

“I’m sorry, Elena,” she said through the speakers. “Dad made me a better offer.”

Lily had never escaped Lazarus.

She had been working for the senator all along.

She entered the activation code.

Across the country, government databases began deleting people.

The first identity to disappear was Elena’s.
