Chapter 15 - A Mother’s LullabyLate that night, the grand estate was bathed in the soft, soothing glow of nursery lights. The storm had passed days ago, leaving the air crisp and clean.

Elena sat in the rocking chair, cradling her tiny granddaughter, Chloe, against her chest. The baby’s soft, even breathing filled the quiet room with a profound sense of peace.
Emily walked in quietly, wrapping a warm woolen shawl around her mother’s shoulders. She rested her hands on Elena’s shoulders, looking down at her sleeping daughter with misty eyes.
“You know, Mom... for the first six weeks you worked here as a housekeeper, I thought you were just a lonely old woman trying to make ends meet,” Emily murmured, a gentle smile touching her lips. “I had no idea you were a titan in disguise.”
Elena chuckled softly, kissing the baby’s tiny forehead. “Desperation makes us do remarkable things, my love. When you spend thirty-one years searching for your stolen child, you learn how to blend into the wallpaper. You learn how to wait, how to watch, and how to strike when the time is right.”
“Do you think it’s really over now?” Emily asked, a trace of lingering vulnerability in her voice. “Is Richard’s shadow finally gone?”
Elena turned her gaze toward the window, looking out into the starlit night where the sprawling estate grounds stood strong and secure.

“Richard was just a symptom of a sick world, Emily,” Elena said softly. “The shadow is gone because we brought the light. And no one will ever hurt this family again. I promise you that.”
Suddenly, a sharp, urgent buzz interrupted the quiet tranquility of the nursery.
