Chapter 19 - The Final ReckoningElena descended the stairs slowly, her footsteps echoing with rhythmic finality. She stopped just two feet away from the thrashing, trapped sociopath.

Richard’s face was pressed against the steel mesh, sweat and dirt pouring down his cheeks as he glared up at her with pure, unmitigated hatred. “Let me out! You can’t do this! I’ll kill you! I swear I’ll kill you!”
“You’ve made a lot of threats, Richard, but you always lacked the courage to follow through without hiding behind shadows or rigged chandeliers,” Elena said softly, her voice dangerously calm.
From the shadows of the hallway behind her, the heavy boots of federal marshals and state troopers stepped into the light, their weapons lowered, their expressions filled with grim satisfaction.
The lead marshal stepped forward, snapping a fresh pair of heavy steel handcuffs onto Richard’s wrists right through the mesh openings. “Inmate Sterling, you are re-arrested for attempted prison break, assaulting a corrections officer, and armed home invasion. Your trial is over. You are going straight to solitary confinement in the federal supermax.”
