Chapter 4 - The Bloodline Token“Elena!” Emily gasped, staring in shock as the frail-looking housekeeper pinned the muscular enforcer to the ground with a devastating arm-lock.

“Don’t look back, Emily! Get to the gate!” Elena barked, her knuckles white as she wrenched Marcus’s arm behind his back until a sickening pop echoed in the rain. Marcus howled in agony and slumped unconscious into the mud.
Elena rose smoothly, wiping a streak of rain and mud from her forehead. She turned to see Emily standing paralyzed, clutching the velvet jeweler’s box and staring at the split heart pendant in utter disbelief.
Emily’s hands shook uncontrollably as she picked up the two halves from the mud. They weren’t just similar—they were custom-engraved with an intricate, rare Celtic knot pattern that only a master silversmith from a specific region in Vermont could forge.
“Where... where did you get this?” Emily whispered, her voice cracking as she looked up at the housekeeper.
Elena stopped. Her breath caught in her throat. For thirty-one years, she had carried her half of that exact pendant against her heart, a matching piece to the one stolen from her baby crib the night she was abducted in Burlington.
Slowly, with trembling fingers, Elena reached inside the pocket of her maid’s uniform and pulled out her own silver chain.

Emily did the same, pulling her half from beneath her torn cardigan.
They stepped toward each other under the flickering amber glow of the garden security light.
