Chapter 11 - The Secret Behind the Sealed VaultThe demolition of the north wing revealed secrets even Teresa Salazar had not anticipated.

Heavy machinery had barely finished clearing away the charred rubble when structural engineers noticed something odd in the mansion's foundation. Beneath the floorboards of what had once been Teresa’s private suite lay a reinforced steel sub-floor—a hidden panic room or underground vault that did not appear on any of the original architectural blueprints of the Ríos estate.

Alejandro stood on the edge of the excavated pit, watching the demolition crew use a hydraulic cutter to slice through the thick steel bolts.

Valeria stood a few feet away, keeping a watchful eye on Mateo, who was playing quietly with a set of building blocks in the newly sunlit family room. The boy no longer flinched at loud noises. The constant, crushing weight of fear had dissolved, replaced by a quiet, steady resilience.

"Mr. Ríos," the foreman called out, wiping sweat from his forehead. "We're through. But you're going to want to see this yourself."

Alejandro stepped down into the damp, concrete-lined chamber. The air inside smelled of dust, old iron, and damp earth. A single overhead bulb flickered to life as the generator kicked on.

Against the far wall stood rows of metal filing cabinets and several heavy safety deposit boxes stamped with the logos of various private banks in Monterrey. But it wasn't the financial documents that made Alejandro freeze.

It was the wall of photographs.

Hundreds of polaroids, surveillance prints, and handwritten notes covered an entire bulletin board. They weren't just of Lucía or Mateo. They dated back years—images of Alejandro’s business partners, local politicians, judges, and high-profile executives, all caught in compromising situations.

Teresa Salazar had never been just a personal assistant. She was a professional blackmailer, using the Ríos mansion as the central hub of a deep, criminal conspiracy.
