Chapter 14 - The Choice at the CrossroadsThat evening, the mansion was quiet. Mateo had fallen asleep early, curled up with a new set of storybooks in his bedroom, completely unbothered by the federal agents or the news crews outside the gates.

Valeria sat at the massive mahogany dining table, staring at the official government document resting beside her coffee cup.
Alejandro walked in, carrying a tray with two cups of tea. He set one down across from her and took a seat.
"You don't have to answer them tomorrow," Alejandro said quietly, reading the hesitation on her face. "If you want to stay here, as part of this household, your position is secure for as long as you want it. Mateo... well, Mateo looks at you like family."
Valeria looked up, her dark eyes meeting his. "And what about you, Mr. Ríos?"
Alejandro paused, a rare, genuine smile touching the corners of his lips. "I spent years building walls around myself, thinking that success meant isolation. You walked into this house and showed me that true strength comes from letting the light in. Whatever you choose, you've already changed our lives forever."

Alejandro's expression softened with deep relief and unspoken gratitude. "Then it's a partnership."
