It was a Friday afternoon. Golden sunlight spilled across the cream marble foyer, warming the polished stone. Valeria was organizing cleaning supplies in the utility closet when she heard the heavy front doors open.
She turned to see Alejandro standing in the foyer, accompanied by a woman in a sharp business suit—Elena Vance, a senior federal prosecutor handling the RICO case against Teresa’s network.
"Valeria," Alejandro said, stepping forward. "Do you have a moment? Prosecutor Vance wants to speak with you."
Valeria wiped her hands on her apron and stepped out. "Good afternoon, Counselor."
Elena Vance offered a respectful, warm smile. "Valeria Gómez. Your quick thinking didn't just save Mateo and Mr. Ríos; your preservation of that journal in the north wing gave us the exact cryptographic key we needed to crack Teresa’s financial servers. The Attorney General's office wants to offer you a formal commendation—and a position as a civilian consultant for our domestic security oversight division."

Valeria blinked in surprise. She looked down at her white apron, then back at the prosecutor. "A consultant? I'm a housekeeper, Ms. Vance."
"You're someone with extraordinary intuition and unmatched courage," Alejandro added, stepping closer. "And while I selfishly don't want to lose you, I know that cleaning houses is a fraction of what you're truly capable of."
