Chapter 20 - A New LegacyThree months later, the Ríos mansion looked entirely different.

The heavy, oppressive shadows that had defined the estate for years were completely gone. The north wing had been transformed into a bright, open conservatory filled with white roses and sunlight. The dark, conspiratorial whispers of the past had been replaced by genuine laughter.

It was a Saturday morning. The cream marble foyer gleamed beneath crystal sconces that radiated warmth instead of cold dread.

Mateo Ríos, now seven years old, sat at the dining table with a fresh box of crayons. He wasn't drawing monsters or dark hallways anymore. He was drawing a bright blue house surrounded by green trees, with three stick figures standing proudly in the front yard—a tall father, a bright-eyed boy, and a smiling woman wearing a crisp white apron.

Alejandro walked into the room, holding two cups of coffee and a federal ID badge clipped to a lanyard. He set the badge down gently beside Valeria's coffee cup.

Valeria looked down at the badge, then up at Alejandro.

"Official certification," Alejandro said with a warm, genuine smile. "Though I’m sincerely hoping you still plan to keep your job as the head of this household."

Valeria laughed, picking up the badge before adjusting her white apron with quiet pride.

"Rich houses always need someone who knows how to look beneath the surface, Mr. Ríos," Valeria said softly. "And some families are worth sticking around to protect."

Mateo ran over, throwing his arms around Valeria's waist, looking up with a bright, joyful smile.

Alejandro stepped closer, wrapping his arms around both of them. The silence in the mansion was no longer heavy or haunting. It was full of peace, a hard-won victory, and a family finally, truly whole.
