Chapter 9 - Breaking the Curse"Stay low! Cover your mouths!" Alejandro coughed, carrying Mateo in his arms while gripping Valeria's hand tightly.

Together, they smashed through the glass of the French balcony doors, tumbling out onto the stone patio just as the bedroom behind them collapsed in a shower of sparks.
Firefighters and police officers flooded the courtyard below. Floodlights blinded them as paramedics rushed forward with oxygen masks and stretchers.
Mateo was wrapped in a thermal blanket, coughing heavily, but for the first time in two years, his eyes weren't filled with blind terror. As a paramedic placed an oxygen mask over his face, the boy reached out, his tiny fingers finding Valeria’s hand and squeezing it tightly.

Alejandro turned to Valeria, his eyes shining with profound gratitude and a raw, newly found humility.
