Chapter 17 - Into the Labyrinth"Run!" Valeria shouted, shoving Alejandro toward the service corridor behind the staircase.

Bullets struck the marble pillar inches from where they stood, sending white stone shrapnel flying. Alejandro didn't hesitate; he grabbed Valeria’s hand, pulling her toward the heavy fire-rated steel door leading down to the modernized lower service levels.

They slammed the heavy door behind them, throwing the deadbolt just as heavy fists and a muffled kick slammed against the metal from the other side.

"They'll cut through that door in less than three minutes," Valeria panted, her eyes scanning the dim emergency lighting of the basement corridor.

"There's a manual override for the estate's emergency transmitter in the utility hub," Alejandro said, breathing heavily as he checked his pockets for his keys. "If we can reach it, we can broadcast an emergency signal on an encrypted police frequency."

They sprinted down the concrete corridor, the sound of heavy boots echoing behind them as Rossi’s men breached the upper steel door.

"They're right behind us!" Valeria gasped.

They ducked into the expansive utility and server room, slamming the reinforced wooden door shut and locking the heavy security deadbolt from the inside.

Alejandro raced to the main terminal, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "The local network is locked out! I need a manual override code!"

"Use Lucía's birthday," Valeria said without missing a beat, remembering the date inscribed inside the front cover of the diary from the north wing.

Alejandro stared at her in shock for a fraction of a second, then rapidly typed the numbers into the terminal.
