Chapter 11 - The Secret Shareholders’ Meeting

The morning sun cast a cold, sharp light across the glass facade of the newly christened Carter-Vance Foundation headquarters in downtown Boston. Inside the third-floor conference room, twelve former senior engineers and project managers of Walker Innovations sat around a polished maple table.
Emma Carter sat at the head of the table, wearing a tailored charcoal blazer over a silk cream blouse. Her posture was relaxed, yet every person in the room understood that she held absolute authority.
"The transition paperwork is officially cleared by the state court," Marcus Vance announced, standing near the projection screen. "As of midnight, every single intellectual property patent held under Ethan Walker’s defunct entity has been legally transferred to this collective."
A murmur of disbelief and profound relief rippled through the room. One of the senior engineers, a veteran programmer named Thomas who had nearly lost his pension when Ethan’s corporate accounts froze, shook his head.
"I still can't believe it, Emma," Thomas said, his voice thick with emotion. "For three years, Ethan treated us like replaceable cogs while embezzling our profit-sharing bonuses to fund his high-society lifestyle. And you quietly documented every single infraction right under his nose."
Emma looked down at her coffee cup, tracing the rim with her thumb. "Ethan always believed that intelligence was measured by how loudly you spoke in a boardroom. He never understood that the people who actually build the foundation are the ones holding the blueprints."

"What happens next?" a junior designer asked.
"We start hiring," Emma replied calmly, looking up with a steady, resolute gaze. "And this time, every single employee holds equity. No exceptions, no placeholders, and no backroom seating charts."
