Chapter 15 - Rebuilding the SkylineSpring turned into a brilliant Boston summer. The waterfront breeze carried the scent of salt water, blooming lilacs, and fresh construction wood.

At the active job site of the new Carter-Community Center in South Boston, workers operated heavy machinery with cheerful efficiency. This was the project Ethan had tried to derail by redirecting municipal zoning permits and freezing community funds.

Now, under Emma’s direct leadership, the building was two months ahead of schedule.

Emma stood near the edge of the open-air observation deck, wearing a hard hat and a high-visibility safety vest over her blazer, reviewing architectural schematics with the lead structural engineer.

Marcus Vance walked up beside her, holding a tablet displaying the final corporate restructuring clearance.

"It’s official, Emma," Marcus said, smiling. "The federal receivership has formally discharged all remaining claims against our assets. Carter-Vance Technologies is one hundred percent debt-free, employee-owned, and fully funded for our next three community expansion initiatives."

Emma looked out over the evolving skyline of Boston, watching the ferries glide across the harbor. "And the legal proceedings against Ethan and his co-conspirators?"

"Ethan’s plea agreement was finalized this morning," Marcus answered quietly. "Twelve years federal, no parole eligibility for the first eight. His mother has relocated to a modest assisted-living apartment outside Worcester after the foreclosure auction of her home. And Clare Hale has reportedly fled the state, facing an active warrant for financial conspiracy."

Emma closed the schematic binder, her expression calm and resolved. She didn't feel a surge of triumph or petty revenge; she felt the profound, grounding peace of closure.

"Good," Emma said softly. "Let’s focus on the community center ribbon-cutting ceremony next month. That’s what matters."
