Marcus Vance knocked gently on the open door before stepping inside, holding a thick encrypted drive.
"Morning, Claire. You won't believe what our forensic cybersecurity team just uncovered while auditing the old server migrations," Marcus said, laying the drive on her desk.
Claire looked up, raising an eyebrow. "More hidden debts?"
"Not debts. A shadow ledger," Marcus explained, pulling up a digital interface on his tablet. "Jonathan wasn't just stealing from the employee trust. He was being blackrolled by an anonymous third party—someone high up in the municipal zoning board who approved the downtown skyscraper permits."
Claire’s expression hardened instantly. "The same zoning board that tried to block our transition to employee ownership?"

Claire stood up, walking over to the large window overlooking the bustling Chicago streets. Her eyes narrowed with fierce determination. "They think because Jonathan is gone, the company is vulnerable. They don't realize that I didn't just inherit a business—I inherited a war."
