Chapter 14 - The Unlikely AllianceClaire looked down at the sleeping infant in the bassinet, then back up at Victoria. The risk was astronomical, but the opportunity to completely root out the corruption embedded deep within the city’s political structure was too valuable to ignore.

"Marcus," Claire called toward the open doorway.

Marcus stepped into the office instantly, casting a sharp, suspicious glance at Victoria. "You rang, Claire?"

"Bring our IT security lead up here immediately," Claire instructed calmly. "And lock the conference room doors. We have a new data asset to decrypt."

Victoria let out a shaky breath of relief, collapsing into a nearby chair. "You're actually going to help me?"

"I'm not helping you, Victoria," Claire said coldly, walking around her desk until she stood directly above her. "I'm securing the evidence I need to clean up this city once and for all. If I find out you're lying or holding anything back, I won't just let the federal prosecutors handle you—I'll personally make sure you spend the rest of your life sharing a cell with Jonathan."

Within twenty minutes, the encrypted cloud drive provided by Victoria was plugged into the secure terminal. The screen flashed lines of green code as the system began decrypting files that had been hidden away for over five years.
