Chapter 2 - The Exit StrategyThree miles away, in a sunlit corner office overlooking Lincoln Park, Claire Whitmore sat calmly across from her lead attorney, Marcus Vance. She wore a deep navy blazer that concealed her advanced pregnancy, her expression serene but resolute.

"The papers have been delivered," Marcus said, tapping a tablet displaying a confirmation receipt from a high-priority courier service. "Jonathan is looking at the financial restraints right now. His personal and corporate credit cards will start freezing within the hour."

Claire nodded slowly, her gaze fixed on the park below where children played in the crisp December snow. "He won't know how to react. He always believed that because I stayed quiet during his late nights and corporate trips, I was weak. He mistook my patience for ignorance."

"The temporary restraining order also freezes the commercial real estate assets," Marcus reminded her, checking a legal brief. "Including the new downtown tower development—the one backed by the mayor's office."

"That tower is built on a foundation of forged signatures and stolen employee trust funds," Claire said quietly, placing a protective hand over her swollen abdomen. "I spent the last six months digging through our personal archives while he was busy wining and dining Victoria Hale. I wanted to make sure that when I walked away, I left him with nothing to bargain with."

"And your safety?" Marcus asked, his tone softening with professional concern. "With his temper, once he realizes the corporate accounts are locked, he might try something desperate."

"Let him try," Claire replied, a cold gleam in her eyes. "He’s about to find out that the person who built the foundation knows exactly where all the load-bearing pillars are."
