Chapter 10 - The Foundation We BuiltFour months later, the private delivery suite at County General was filled with the soft, sweet scent of baby shampoo and morning sunlight.

I sat propped up against the hospital pillows, cradling a tiny, perfect bundle against my chest. Dark wisps of hair, ten tiny fingers, and a face that looked remarkably like a miniature version of the man sleeping soundly in the armchair beside the bed.

Elias bolted upright at the slightest rustle, rubbing his tired eyes before rushing over to the bedside, his chest rising and falling as he looked down at his newborn son.

"Is he awake?" Elias whispered, as if afraid a normal tone would shatter the fragile magic of the morning.

"He's been awake for an hour," I smiled, shifting the baby slightly so Elias could wrap his strong, steady arms around both of us. "Just watching you snore."

Elias kissed my forehead, then pressed a gentle, lingering kiss to the top of our son's head.

"What are we naming him?" Elias asked, his eyes shining with unshed tears of pure gratitude.

I looked toward the doorway, where Sophie was standing on her tiptoes, peering excitedly into the room with her pink cast signed by both of us.

"Let's ask your big sister," I said softly.

Sophie pushed the door open, tiptoeing in with a solemn, important expression on her face. She stared down at the tiny baby in my arms, her eyes wide with wonder.

"His name is Noah," Sophie whispered decisively. "Because Noah built an ark when the storm came."

Elias and I exchanged a profound, knowing look. The storm was behind us. The wreckage had been cleared. And the foundation we had built together was unbreakable.

"Noah it is," Elias smiled, pulling both of us close against his chest.

And as the morning sun poured through the hospital window, I finally knew what true medicine felt like: not just stitching up wounds, but healing the soul.
