Chapter 19 - The Legacy We LeaveTwo years later, County General Hospital celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new Pediatric Trauma Wing—funded entirely by the Brooks-Vance Foundation, dedicated to providing free emergency care to underprivileged families in the city.

I stood at the podium in my crisp white lab coat, cutting the ceremonial red ribbon alongside the hospital director. In the front row sat Elias, holding four-year-old Noah on his lap, while six-year-old Sophie proudly waved a small American flag in the air.

"Medicine taught me how to stay calm while lives fell apart," I spoke into the microphone, my voice ringing clear and strong across the packed courtyard. "I used to think being a doctor meant keeping an emotional distance, building a wall to protect yourself from the pain of the world. But standing here today, surrounded by the people I love, I've learned the greatest lesson of all."

I looked down at Elias and our children. Elias smiled back, giving me a subtle, proud nod.
