Chapter 18 - The Final ConfrontationHarrison froze as Elias stepped directly between us, his broad shoulders shielding me completely, his eyes blazing with protective fury.

"Elias," Harrison sneered, though his voice trembled slightly. "Always playing the white knight. But you don't even know half of what Victoria and I planned. You think you escaped clean? We had a contingency upon contingency—"

"I don't care about your contingencies, Harrison," Elias interrupted, his voice dropping into a deadly calm.

From the darkness behind Harrison, the beam of a high-powered flashlight cut sharply through the trees, followed by the metallic click of heavy-duty shotguns and police radios crackling to life.

"Federal Marshals! Don't move!"

Four tactical agents burst through the brush, tackling Harrison violently to the ground before he could even raise his hands.

As the cuffs clicked tightly around his wrists and he was dragged away into the cruiser waiting on the service road, the terrifying reality of the moment finally dissipated into the cool night air.

Elias spun around, grabbing my shoulders, his chest heaving as he searched my face frantically.

"Are you okay? Did he touch you? Did he hurt you?" Elias asked, his voice cracking with raw panic.

I smiled softly, reaching up to cup his cheek, smoothing out the worried lines on his forehead.

"I'm completely fine, husband," I whispered. "Remember? I'm an ER doctor. I handle emergencies for a living."

Elias let out a shuddering breath, pulling me into a fierce, unbreakable embrace, burying his face in my hair.

"I love you, Adelaide," he whispered fiercely. "More than life itself."

"I love you too, Elias," I replied, looking out over our home, our children sleeping safely inside, and the bright stars overhead.
