Chapter 20 - Forever AfterLater that evening, after the speeches, the cameras, and the celebrations had finally come to an end, Elias and I sat together on the front porch of our home in the hills.
The kids were fast asleep upstairs, worn out from a long day of excitement.
The night air was warm and peaceful, filled with the gentle hum of crickets and the soft rustle of leaves in the old oak tree.
Elias poured two glasses of sparkling cider, handing one to me before sliding his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close against his side.
"We made it," Elias whispered, resting his cheek against my head.
"We did," I agreed, taking a sip of the cider and leaning into his warmth.
"No more secrets, no more running, no more fear?" he asked softly, looking down at me with those familiar, devoted eyes.
I smiled, raising my glass to toast the stars above.
"Just us. From the foundation up."
