Chapter 14 - The Final VerdictJudge Thomas adjusted his glasses, carefully reviewing the digital trail displayed on his monitor. He looked up, his expression hardening into an icy glare as he gazed down at the defense table.
"Counsel," Judge Thomas said, his voice echoing coldly through the silent courtroom. "It appears your motion to dismiss is not only baseless, but constitutes an active attempt to obstruct justice using fabricated counter-evidence."
Victoria stood up abruptly, her chair scraping loudly against the floor.
"Your Honor, it's a lie!" Victoria screamed, her carefully constructed composure finally shattering completely. "They're framing me! Elias is working with her to steal my family's assets! Look at them! They're monsters!"
"Sit down, Ms. Vance, or you will be held in contempt," the bailiff warned, stepping firmly behind her chair.
Judge Thomas slammed his gavel down once. Bang.
"Victoria Vance," the judge declared, his voice carrying the finality of a falling guillotine. "In light of the overwhelming evidence of conspiracy, attempted murder, wire fraud, and suborning perjury, I hereby deny the defense's motion, revoke all bail privileges, and adjust your sentencing guideline to the maximum statutory limit of thirty years without parole."
The gavel came down a second time.

As the bailiff clicked the metal handcuffs back onto Victoria's wrists and led her sobbing, hysterical form out of the courtroom, I felt a massive, long-overdue weight lift entirely off my chest.
The storm was finally over.
