Chapter 5 - The Operating Room CrisisSuddenly, the red light above Operating Room 3 flickered from steady crimson to a frantic, blinking strobe.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
The sound echoed faintly through the double doors before a surgical nurse burst out into the hallway, her sterile gown stained with crimson spray.
"Doctor needs emergency backup in OR 3! Blood pressure is crashing—she’s going into septic shock!"
I screamed, lunging toward the door, but Agent Vance caught me by the shoulders, holding me back. "Sarah, stay back! Let the surgical team work!"
"My baby! Let me go to my baby!" I sobbed, collapsing onto the tiled floor as the weight of the nightmare crushed every bone in my body.
Inside the operating suite, the situation was catastrophic. The ruptured appendix had released a massive wave of toxins into Emily’s peritoneal cavity. Worse, the heavy metals in her system had compromised her coagulation pathways. Blood refused to clot properly.

"We're losing her vitals! Give her epinephrine, now!" the lead surgeon shouted over the monitors.
Outside, I clutched the yellowed birth certificate in my fist, praying to any god who would listen. Please, God. Don't take her from me. Not after we finally found the courage to run.
