Chapter 6 - The Confession in the Interrogation RoomAcross town, inside the sterile, windowless box of the precinct interrogation room, Michael Bennett sat handcuffed to a stainless-steel table. His designer jacket was wrinkled, his hair disheveled, but his trademark sneer remained glued to his face.

Detective Miller—no relation—slapped a stack of printed financial wire transfers onto the metal surface.
"It’s over, Jonathan. The Feds have your offshore accounts frozen, the USB drive is in federal custody, and your wife knows everything," the detective stated flatly.
Michael chuckled, a low, guttural sound that rattled in his throat. "Sarah doesn't know a damn thing. She’s a coward. Without me, she can't even balance a checkbook. In three days, she’ll be begging me to let her come back home."
"Your daughter is currently dying on an operating table because you poisoned her water supply with slow-acting antimony to keep her compliant," Detective Miller countered, leaning in close. "That’s first-degree attempted murder. You’re looking at consecutive life sentences with no parole."

For the first time, the color drained completely from Michael’s face. The arrogant facade cracked, revealing the desperate, cornered rat underneath.
"She brought it on herself," Michael snarled, slamming his cuffed hands against the table. "They both did! They tried to ruin everything I built!"
