Chapter 7 - ASHES OF THE EMPIRE"Boss!" Marcus yelled into his comms, frantically trying to raise our base. "Base alpha, report! Come in, base alpha!"

Static was the only reply. A continuous, harsh hiss of dead air.
My warehouse—the impenetrable fortress I had spent decades fortifying—had just been leveled.
I looked down at Dmitri. The defiant smile on his face was replaced by the cold, hollow acceptance of a dying soldier who had completed his mission.
"Checkmate, Gabriel," Dmitri whispered, before his eyes rolled back and he slumped unconscious.
"Marcus, secure Jake and get him to the secondary safehouse," I ordered, my voice dead, cold, and utterly devoid of human emotion. The shock had worn off, replaced by the apex predator awakening inside me. "Mobilize every surviving asset we have left across the country. Every safehouse, every sleeper agent, every weapon cache."
"Sir, your warehouse is gone. If Viktor has that kind of firepower, he’s not just operating a rogue cell—he has military backing," Marcus warned, helping me lift Jake gently onto a secure transport stretcher.
"I don't care if he has an army," I replied, pulling my black combat gloves tight over my knuckles. "He burned my house. He tortured my son. And now, he's going to find out why they called me the Reaper before I ever became a businessman."
We loaded Jake into the armored medical van. As the vehicle sped away into the stormy night toward a secure medical bunker, I turned my back on the hospital and stared out at the burning horizon where my empire used to stand.
My phone vibrated one last time.
A video message from an unknown sender.
I clicked play.
The screen showed Viktor Vance sitting in a plush leather armchair, holding a glass of scotch, looking older, scarred, but very much alive. Behind him, bound and gagged in a chair, was Rebecca—crying hysterically, blood streaming from her nose.
"Hello, old friend," Viktor smiled warmly through the screen, taking a sip of his drink. "Did you really think you could bury me and keep all the toys for yourself? Come find me at the old Prague silo, Gabriel. Let’s finish this family reunion."
The video ended.

The trap was set. But this time, I wasn't walking into it as prey.
I was walking in as the executioner.
