Chapter 8 - THE ROAD TO PRAGUEThe private jet sliced through the heavy, churning clouds above the Atlantic, heading straight toward Eastern Europe. Inside the cabin, the atmosphere was thick with the scent of gun oil, tactical gear, and impending war.

Marcus was running diagnostics on a heavily modified tactical tablet, tapping furiously against the glass.
"Satellite imagery confirms Viktor has set up operations at the abandoned Soviet-era silo outside Prague," Marcus reported, not looking up from his screen. "The same place you executed him fifteen years ago. It's heavily fortified. Anti-air batteries, private security contractors, automated turret systems. He knew we were coming."
Across from me, I was methodically cleaning my sidearm, stripping the slide down, inspecting the firing pin, and reassembling it with mechanical precision. My mind was entirely blank to everything except the objective.
"He chose that location for psychological warfare," I said calmly. "He wants to prove that the past cannot stay buried."
"And Rebecca?" Marcus asked, glancing up. "According to our intel feeds, she wasn't just a plant—she was working with Viktor the entire time. Even the beating on Christmas morning... she orchestrated it to force Jake into a state of severe physiological stress, which accelerates the adrenaline release necessary to map the genetic markers."
I paused my cleaning. The memory of Rebecca laughing behind the camera, watching our son bleed on the hardwood floor, flashed through my mind.
"She made her choice," I said flatly. "In our world, betrayal has a very specific price. If Viktor wants to keep her as a hostage, he can keep her corpse."
"What about Jake?" Marcus asked cautiously. "He's waking up at the safehouse. He remembers everything. He knows you aren't a logistics manager, boss. He knows who you really are."

I looked out the window at the endless expanse of dark clouds.
"When this is over, I'll tell him the truth," I whispered. "Every word of it. And if he hates me for it, at least he'll be alive to do so."
