Chapter 15 - The Corporate CoupJulian Vance wasn't just a ghost from my mother's past; he was the ruthless CEO of Vance Global, a hostile acquisition conglomerate that had been quietly buying up Caldwell stock for the past five years.

By afternoon, an emergency board meeting was called in the estate's grand boardroom. Julian sat at the opposite end of the mahogany table, flanked by his own high-priced legal team.
"Let's dispense with the family drama," Julian announced, leaning forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Grace, you hold the ancestral title to the estate, but Vance Global holds sixty-one percent of the voting shares in Caldwell Enterprises. Legally, I can dissolve this corporation, strip the assets, and turn this grand mansion into a commercial parking lot by sundown."
The board members gasped. Old Arthur, frail and wheel-bound, was pushed into the room by Thomas. The old patriarch glared at Julian with pure venom.
"You traitorous bastard," Arthur spat, his voice shaking with rage. "You ruined my daughter, and now you come back for the estate?"
"I came for what’s mine, Arthur," Julian replied coldly. "Unless... Grace makes a deal."
All eyes turned to me. The silence in the room was absolute.

"What kind of deal?" I asked, my gaze locking onto my biological father without a hint of fear.
"You sign over full operational control of the family trust to Vance Global," Julian said smoothly. "In exchange, I’ll let you keep the title of nominal head of the estate. You get to play queen while I rule the kingdom."
